FORMER DEPUTY TAKES A DEAL

A former Sheriff’s deputy has pleaded no contest to vehicular homicide from a high speed crash that happened as he raced to a bar fight in Oildale. Nicholas Clerico had his lights and siren on when he ran the red light on North Chester Avenue at China Grade Loop two years ago, slamming into the car driven by 72-year-old Nancy Garrett.

Clerico has been sentenced to three years probation, as well as pay fines and serve 240 hours of community service.

Garrett’s family is suing for damages and to change county policy.
