TRUANCY CONFERENCE KICKS OFF IN BAKERSFIELD

The Kern High School District and Superintendent of Schools are co-hosting a three day conference in Bakersfield to figure out how to get more kids to show up to class.

The 6th annual Central California Truancy Summit will explore the reasons why kids skip school and offer suggestions on how to combat the problems.

Bullying and bad transportation are the most common reasons students do not show up, although the Kern High School District did see a 26% drop in truancy last year.

The problem is also a financial one for districts, who lose about $29 a day for each kid who does not attend class.
