FIGHTING FOOD TRUCK ILLNESSES

Kern County Public Health is launching a new campaign to fight food borne illnesses, as mobile food trucks and carts become increasingly popular.

At Monday’s news conference announcing the Safe Eats sticker program, Environmental Health Director Donna Fenton said there is often no hot water or bathroom available, and foods can sit out all day. One vendor even had their dogs lick utensils to clean them.

Diners are asked to report vendors that do not post the green food-safety sticker that’s required, and to check the Safe Diner app for inspections.
