DEPUTIES AGREE, FOR NOW

The County has reached a short-term agreement with the Sheriff’s deputies’ union. The memorandum of understanding came after the two sides were prepared to declare an impasse less than a month ago. The Kern Law Enforcement Association agreed to a Sheriff’s plan to have seven deputies in non-security roles at the receiving facility move into jobs that are currently filled by overtime. Civilian volunteers will fill the jail positions and that would save $800-thousand. The agreement, however, only goes through September.
