HEAT MAKES CROP DISEASE GROW

Kern County growers are facing two deadly diseases that have popped up during the heat wave.

Joe Nunez with the University of California has been getting calls about the Southern Blight fungus attacking mature plants like tomatoes, potatoes, and garlic. Nunez says Bacterial Sot Rot is doing the same thing to mature carrots.

Farm advisors are telling growers to irrigate in short bursts because both diseases thrive in stagnant water.
