A bicyclist is in the hospital with major injuries after he was run over by a garbage truck in northeast Bakersfield.

Police say the man was hit after he tried to pass the truck in an alley near Jefferson and Sacramento streets around 6:00 Wednesday morning then lost control in front of the vehicle.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the accident.
