The Eastern Kern Air Pollution Control District is asking people in the Kern River Valley to stay indoors due to smoke from the nearby Schaeffer Fire. People with heart or breathing issues, young children, and the elderly are most at risk for developing extra health problems.

The fire has been burning in the Sequoia National Forest for more than a week and is 17% contained.
