More than $75,000 in citations have been issued by the Bakersfield Fire Department during their 4th of July enforcement.

Battalion Chief John Frando says more firefighters were overseeing the use of firecrackers than in years past. Firefighters responded to 860 calls for service and were able to knock down 52 fires over the period while using 14,000 gallons of water.

The fence and grass fires sparked by the fireworks caused $11,000 in damage.
