Cal Water says their rates will not be going up to clean up the cancer-causing compound 1,2,3 TCP from their wells. Community Affairs Specialist Kevin McCusker says they began using carbon filters awhile ago to take out other chemicals and those have worked on the TCP.

McCusker says the costs will be recouped if they win a lawsuit against Dow Chemical.

Bakersfield city water customers may see their bills go up 16% this year to pay for those filters.
