A man has been convicted of second-degree murder for assaulting another man outside a southeast Bakersfield apartment.

Guadalupe Ruiz kicked victim Abel Prendiz in the head with steel toed boots on South Union Avenue near Ming Avenue two years ago. Ruiz faces 19 years in prison at his sentencing next month.

Co-defendant Quinton James will be sentenced next week.
