MARATHON GETS A BAKERSFIELD SOUND

The second annual Bakersfield Marathon is paying tribute to our city’s musical history.

Organizer David Milazzo says the theme of this year’s run on November 12th is the Bakersfield Sound, and they hope to spread the gospel of Buck Owens to out of town runners by awarding medals that look like his famous red, white and blue guitar. Participants will also get to tour the Crystal Palace Museum the day before to see Owens’s memorabilia.

The marathon starts and ends at Cal State Bakersfield, and Milazzo hopes to raise $10-thousand for the school’s athletic programs.

The marathon will also play host to a mini run honoring fallen Bakersfield Police Sergeant Dennis Moore. His family, friends, and colleagues will start 8.36 miles from the finish line in tribute to his badge number. Moore died in August as he was getting ready for work; it is considered a line of duty death.
