It may cost another $7 a year for trash service in Bakersfield, starting this summer. City Solid Waste Director Kevin Barnes says they need the extra money because gas is more expensive, but he thinks homeowners here are still getting a good deal. “Bakersfield is at $200 per year per household, the Fresno area is around $300, Oakland is up around $1000.” The proposed $207 annual fee would also pay for street sweeping and recycling if it’s approved by the City Council in June.
