A Bakersfield mother and her boyfriend have been charged with killing her two-year-old son, but it’s unclear if they’ll be tried together. 19-year-old Ayled Chavez faces first-degree murder and child abuse charges in court on Monday, while 20-year-old Kaleb Kessinger will be in court on similar counts Tuesday.

Kessinger was arrested after a day-long manhunt Friday. Police believe they found little Ramon Reyes-Chavez’ body in the Kern River Canyon Thursday.
