More than 37-hundred people turned out the Relay for Life fundraiser at the Kern County Fairgrounds, including 967 cancer survivors, to raise $595,989.88.Sandy Brown’s team the Stella Hills Basket Case had the second highest total at $40,145.
“We don’t take a dime out of our donations. We buy things, we put them in our baskets…100-percent of our proceeds go to cancer research because that’s why we’re here.” The Aera Energy team came in first at $61,869. This is the 27th year that Relay for Life has been held in Bakersfield, and it’s one of the largest such gatherings in the U.S.
