STREETS TO CLOSE FOR HALL MEMORIAL

Several streets in downtown Bakersfield will be closed for Saturday’s memorial for the late Harvey Hall, who served four terms as mayor before stepping down last year. A large turnout is expected at Rabobank Arena for the Celebration of Life that starts at 10:00 on June 2nd, but there will also be a funeral procession at 8:45 from the former Golden State Mall on F Street to the arena on Truxtun Avenue. Hall was known as Bakersfield’s biggest cheerleader, attending nearly every ribbon cutting during his time in office and for working alongside volunteers to pick up litter in his Keep Bakersfield Beautiful campaign. Hall also led the fight to end chronic homelessness in his home town. He passed May 19th from a sudden and aggressive illness at 77.
