OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN SOUTH BAKERSFIELD

Bakersfield Police are investigating an officer involved shooting on South Union Avenue near Pacheco Road where a man who ran from officers was wounded.

Sgt. Brian Holcombe says officers pulled over 37-year old Jose Jesus Pantoja Reyes during a traffic stop around 4:15 Friday morning. Reyes ran, was shot by officers, then taken to the hospital in stable condition. Two handguns were recovered at the scene, one of which was stolen.

Reyes is wanted for attempted murder in Arvin, but BPD did not know that when he was stopped.

Three women who were in his car were detained but later released without charges.
