HEFTY LEGAL FEES SOUGHT

The owner of Tastries Bakery in Bakersfield is asking California to pay her legal fees. Cathy Miller’s lawyer Charles LiMandri says it cost $250-thousand to fight a lawsuit that was filed on behalf of a lesbian couple who wanted her to make their wedding cake despite her Christian beliefs. The Department of Fair Employment and Housing says paying those fees would prevent others who were discriminated against from coming forward. A judge ruled in February that Miller could refuse to customize wedding cakes that violate her religious beliefs.
