The Bakersfield Fire Department has chosen Anthony Galagaza as their new chief.
Galagaza says he will recruit more diverse firefighters, require each station to have a hazard reduction plan, write up a strategic plan for the department, and ask the public to support a one-cent sales tax measure to fund public safety.
The 26 year veteran has also served as an engineer, public information officer, and battalion chief and is the son of a retired Bakersfield Fire captain.
He replaces the retiring Doug Greener on July 2nd.
