Mosquito numbers are on the rise in Kern County despite the drought.Vector Control District manager Gene Abbott says they’ve caught 20-percent more bugs in Bakersfield this year. Residents are encouraged to clean their pools and dump any standing water to prevent the spread of West Nile Virus, which killed a person here last year and infected two people already this year.
