Bakersfield firefighters used a pair of drones to help them catch people setting off illegal fireworks.

Battalion Chief John Frando says the devices, which are code named LOIS, flew down major streets on the east and west sides of town, but did not go into anyone’s backyard.

This is the second year in a row the department has used unmanned aircraft to shoot video and help patrols write $1,000 citations. Plans are to use them again next year.
