Smoke from the Ferguson and other fires has triggered a valley-wide health caution and air quality alert. A thick band of smoke is riding foothills and rolling into Kern County, and a heavy pressure system will hold the smoke in the Valley for several days. Young children, the elderly and those with existing breathing conditions are advised to stay indoors.
