Dozens of Bakersfield High School students lined California Avenue to pay tribute to an alumnus and Vietnam veteran whose remains were recently identified. Navy Commander James B. Mills had been declared missing in action after a reconnaissance mission in 1966.

Students also waved American flags and sang patriotic songs during Friday morning’s rally.
