Bakersfield firefighters are investigating after a fire ripped through two first-floor units at the abandoned El Morocco Motel on Golden State Avenue.

Battalion Chief Trever Martinusen says they didn’t see anyone when they got to the property around 10:00 Friday morning but have not ruled out arson. Firefighters had to cut through the roof to put out the fire.

A damage estimate has not been released.
