Kern County and city firefighters have knocked down a large fire behind a house in east Bakersfield that torched several RVs, travel trailers, and cars.

Firefighters don’t know what sparked it around 1:15 Friday afternoon on Rosewood Avenue west of Morning Drive, but County Fire Engineer Andrew Freeborn says the homeowners were using the vehicles for storage, which helped the fire spread.

One firefighter was treated for a heat-related illness at the scene.
