ARVIN, LAMONT GET ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY STATUS

Arvin and Lamont have been designated economic opportunity areas to help attract businesses and fight their nearly 11% unemployment rates.

Devin Brown from the Kern County Administrator’s Office told Supervisors they expect to raise about $1.7 million in taxes on new business to help pay for parks, sidewalks, and street improvements over the next decade.

The county has five such areas already, including in Oildale and Lost Hills.
