ELDERLY WOMAN, BOY HURT IN CRASH

A 72-year-old woman has major injuries and a three-year-old boy is being treated for minor injuries after they were hit by a sedan outside Noble Elementary School in northeast Bakersfield.

The accident happened around noon Friday on River Blvd. and Noble Avenue, when CHP Sgt. Patrick Echebarne says the two started walking across the street despite a sign warning people not to cross at that corner.

The driver stayed on scene. Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, but Echebarne says the man was driving down a hill and probably couldn’t see them in time.
