The woman who was hit by a car while crossing the street outside Noble Middle School in northeast Bakersfield has died from her injuries.

72-year-old Maria Garcia started walking Friday afternoon despite a street sign warning people not to cross at the corner of River Blvd and Noble Avenue. The small boy with her had minor injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash, and the driver stayed on scene.
