Thousands of local veterans will be able to get treatment closer to home when a new, $39 million VA clinic opens in northwest Bakersfield. It aims to take the stress off of the facility in Los Angeles and make it easier for vets to get care.

The clinic at Olive and Knudsen drives will have more mental health services as well as expanded care for women and homeless veterans when it opens in the next two years.
