CHP OFFICER SHOOTS PIT BULL

A large pit bull has been shot as the CHP helped clear a homeless encampment along southbound Highway 99 in Bakersfield.

The officers were helping CalTrans serve an eviction notice at the camp near Ming Avenue around 12:30 Tuesday morning when the dog charged and bit the officer’s pant leg. The officer shot and wounded the dog, who’s being cared for at Kern County Animal Services. No one else was injured.

A German Shepard who was also there stayed calm.
