BFD STRESSES DISASTER READINESS

The Bakersfield Fire Department wants people to use October’s Earthquake Preparedness Month to review their plan to keep their families safe. Battalion Chief Trevor Martinusen says city-dwellers should be ready to be on their own for several days if services are knocked out, much like people do in wildland fire zones. “We want to make sure that happens within the city as well, we need to make sure that people have water, they have just some quick rations, things in the pantry they could eat that would not need either gas or electricity to heat.” Martinusen says the best place to learn about safety plans and supplies is on the Red Cross website.
