The former chairwoman of the Kern County Democratic Party has died from an undisclosed illness. Candi Easter served from 2004 to 2014 and was known as the “Queen” by local activists.

Friends say she had been sick for some time before passing away Thursday at Mercy Southwest Hospital. She was 71.
