The pocket park named for fallen Police Officer David Nelson is officially open for visitors.

Nelson was known for playing with the local kids, and for encouraging them to pursue their dreams and be active in sports. He patrolled the east Bakersfield neighborhood on Monterey and Brown streets before was killed in 2015 during a high speed pursuit.

Dozens of groups and people donated time and materials to build the park.
