A man who was wearing dark clothes has died after he was hit by a car in east Bakersfield. Police say the victim was outside the crosswalk just after 8:30 Monday night on Union Avenue near East 3rd Street. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected and the driver stayed at the scene. Bakersfield has the highest rate of pedestrian fatalities in the state.
