NEW HIGH SCHOOL FOR SOUTHEAST BAKERSFIELD

Southeast Bakersfield is getting a new high school.

Kern High School District Assistant Superintendent Scott Cole says the campus on Panama Lane and Cottonwood Road will relieve overcrowding at Mira Monte, Golden Valley, and Ridgeview once it opens in 2022. The $125 million campus is mostly being paid for by the Measure K school bond, with state grants making up the difference.

The decision has upset some parents in Arvin and Lamont, who have been lobbying the district for years to build another high school to fix overcrowding at Arvin High School.
