There have now been four deaths from the flu in Kern County. Public Health Services also reports 10 people needed treatment in a hospital intensive care unit. There were two flu deaths last year and the year before, one in 2016, zero in 2015, and 11 deaths in 2013 and 2014 due to the swine flu.
