MASSAGE PARLOR ORDINANCE A SUCCESS

Fourteen massage parlors have been shutdown under a county ordinance that regulates the operations and levies fees for licensing and inspections. Supervisor Mike Maggard says there have many complaints in his district about prostitution and human trafficking, and he thanked county staff and deputies Tuesday for their efforts. “Our communities are greatly, greatly…the quality of life has improved because of the great job that you guys have done, so I want to thank you each for your participation in that.” There were 75 massage parlors in unincorporated Kern County when the ordinance was enacted in August, there are now three. The board also approved lowering the permit fee, as it had promised, in light of the success of the ordinance. The money paid for the inspections.
