BOSTON (AP) – A California man has become the 51st person charged with taking part in the sweeping college admissions bribery scheme.

Federal prosecutors in Boston said Friday that 59-year-old Jeffrey Bizzack has agreed to plead guilty to paying $250,000 to get his son into the University of Southern California as a fake volleyball recruit.

Bizzack, of Solana Beach, California, is the latest charged with participating in the scheme, which authorities say involved rigging test scores and bribing coaches to get students into elite schools across the country.

His lawyer, Seth Berman, said Bizzack “voluntarily came forward to be accountable for his actions and accept responsibility.” Berman says Bizzack deeply regrets his actions, which he says Bizzack’s son knew nothing about.

Prosecutors say they will recommend nine months in prison.
