BPD Chief Martin Announces Retirement

Bakersfield Police Chief Lyle Martin has announced his retirement. Chief Martin, in a Facebook post, said it has been a dream to be police chief in his hometown for the last three years. Chief Martin thanked the community, and the organization, for embracing his theory of creating a culture of accountability. He says there are plenty who are in line and qualified to lead BPD forward.

Martin, a 31 year veteran of the BPD, says he has been offered an opportunity that will allow him to continue to serve the Bakersfield community. He will retire after this year.
