“Slugfest” In Race To Succeed Congressman

LAKESIDE, California (AP) – The race to fill the vacated seat of Republican U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter of California has turned into a GOP slugfestHunter held one of the party’s few remaining House seats in California before he pleaded guilty to a corruption charge and resigned last month. The race to replace him has been especially bitter between the Republican front-runners, former congressman Darrell Issa and San Diego radio host and political commentator Carl DeMaio. Both have questioned the other’s loyalty to President Donald Trump and called the other a liar. They are battling to finish in the top two of the March 3 primary and advance to the November general election.
