UPDATE 10/5: A female juvenile has been arrested in connection with social media threats made to Thompson Junior High School. BPD say they do not believe there was intent to follow through on the threats made. Sgt. Robert Pair says they are still working with the FBI and this arrest does not appear to be related to threats made against Golden Valley High School, which the investigation is still ongoing.
ORIGINAL STORY 10/4: Over the weekend, several schools in the Kern County region received threats of possible violence on school campuses. Edison Middle School, Golden Valley High School, and Thompson Junior High all posted statements confirmed threats were recieved. In a Twitter video Monday, the Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood says they believe the threats are part of a “social media event”. Sheriff Youngblood says there is no credible information that this event may occur. He does add nothing surprises them in the world we live in so be alert.
Bakersfield Police issued a similar statement saying the threats are consistent with a national trend of anonymous school threats. BPD says they are working with other law enforcement agencies including the FBI and an increase of police presence may be seen at school sites and neighborhoods.
