Non-Profit Providing Free Home Services to Kern County Residents

Non-profit the Partners In Care Foundation are looking for more Kern County participants for their Multipurpose Senior Services Program. This program funded by the state provides free resources to qualified seniors such as transportation, meals, even appliances and installation. 80-year-old Bakersfield-resident Paul Lackey says he might not be alive today if not for this program. He says when he needed an a/c unit, refrigerator and a hospital bed, it was all provided to him for free. Lackey says he would have been in trouble if he had to pay for any of it himself. These resources have allowed Lackey to remain in his own home and receive care there instead of living in a skilled nursing facility, which is the goal of the program.

More money from the state budget is being invested into MSSP because it’s cheaper on the taxpayers and, according to Foundation Vice-President of Long-Term Services Anwar Zoueihid, the familiarity of living independently in your own home allows seniors to live a better and healthier life.
