According to the Kern High School District, KHSD police took a student into custody Thursday after another student reported they were in possession of a gun. The District’s statement on what happened is below:
On Thursday, December 2, 2021, a West High School student was found to be in possession of a firearm. The student was arrested immediately and is facing criminal charges. KHSD Police have investigated the incident, and there is no indication that the student intended to use the gun at school. A student also reported and turned two live handgun rounds found in the restroom shortly after the passing period into administration. The student who reported this finding is a true hero as KHSD Police quickly recovered the items. West High parents and families were notified of the incident Thursday evening. We encourage parents and families to continue encouraging their students to report any suspicious behavior to school administration and/or law enforcement, so they can continue to learn and excel in a safe environment. Out of an abundance of caution, additional police officers and security are on campus today [Friday].
