The Kern County Fire Department is investigating what happened Friday morning when a structure fire broke out at a restaurant in Lamont.
The full release can be seen below:
This (Friday) morning at 4:05 am, emergency dispatchers received a call into the call center reporting a vacant structure fire at 8001 Panama Road (Casa Lopez restaurant) in Lamont. When fire crews arrived on scene, they immediately ordered more engines to help fight the fire because of the amount of flames coming from the building. The fire was coming from the top story of the commercial building, in the attic area. After crews got the fire under control, they were able to do a secondary search of the building and that is when they found a deceased victim.
Investigation is still underway as to what caused this fire, but transients had frequented the empty building over the past few months.
