Juvenile Hospitalized after East Bakersfield Hit and Run

The California Highway Patrol is searching for the suspect vehicle in a hit and run Tuesday morning.

According to CHP, the incident occurred between 5:45 a.m. and 6:38 a.m. on Niles Street near Brentwood Drive. A passerby noticed the boy, approximately 16-years-old, unconscious near the center divider. Officers were called and their investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Niles as the juvenile crossed the street southbound. The vehicle struck the boy and fled the scene without calling 9-1-1. He was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The only suspect information authorities have right now is the vehicle is red in color but no make or model information is available.

CHP Officer Eric Scott says they believe the boy may have been walking to school possibly to nearby Foothill High School, but it is unconfirmed at this time.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Bakersfield CHP.
