Three Shot at Valley Plaza Mall during Drug Deal

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a drug deal gone wrong at Valley Plaza Mall Monday night.

On March 14th, at 7:21 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the south parking structure of the Valley Plaza Mall, 2700 block of Ming Avenue. Upon arrival, two victims of gunshot injuries, a 17-year-old male juvenile and 15-year-old male juvenile were located and transported to an area hospital for treatment. An additional adult victim of a gunshot injury from the incident later arrived at an area hospital via private means.

The investigation revealed that the 17-year-old male juvenile and the adult gunshot injury victim, Dejion Swisher (18) of Bakersfield attempted to commit a strong-arm robbery of the 15-year-old male juvenile gunshot victim and an unidentified suspect during a narcotics transaction. During the robbery, a firearm was produced by the unidentified suspect, who began firing into the altercation, striking all three subjects.

All of the subjects are expected to survive. Swisher was arrested for robbery and child endangerment. A criminal petition for robbery will be placed against the 17-year-old juvenile pending treatment.

The investigation to locate the gunman who fled is ongoing.
