Man Shot in Buttocks During Chase with Bakersfield Police

The Bakersfield Police Department has arrested two men and one juvenile male for firearm and evading charges after the driver refused to pullover during a traffic stop.

On 04/28/2022 at about 2312 hours, while in the 100 block of Espee Street, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for vehicle code violations. The driver of the vehicle, ERIK GALVAN, failed to yield to officers and led officers on a vehicle pursuit through East Bakersfield. The vehicle pursuit concluded when GALVAN’s vehicle collided with a tree in the 2600 block of Oswell Street. GALVAN (25), JOSE ARAUSA (25), and a male juvenile occupant (16) of the vehicle were subsequently taken into custody.

As officers were handcuffing GALVAN they noticed he was bleeding from a minor gunshot wound to his right buttock. Investigation revealed a firearm was accidentally discharged by one of the two passengers within the suspect vehicle during the pursuit. Two loaded firearms were recovered during a search of the vehicle. GALVAN was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. All three occupants were arrested for firearm related charges, and GALVAN was arrested for evading officers in a vehicle.
