The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a weekend death involving a young child.

Officers with the BPD responded around 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at a residence in the 400 block of Penzance Drive in west Bakersfield. Officers located 5-year-old Oliver Michael Shine unresponsive in a residential swimming pool. He was transported to the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where he later died.

The cause is under investigation.
