Suspect Wanted for Murder at River Walk Target

The Bakersfield Police Department has identified the suspect wanted for killing a California Department of Corrections employee last week.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking the community for any information regarding the whereabouts of Robert Pernell Roberts (29) of Bakersfield. Roberts has an active arrest warrant for murder regarding the August 24th, 2022, shooting death of Benny Alcala in a parking lot in the 11000 block of Stockdale Highway.

Roberts is described as a: Black male adult, 29 years of age, balding, brown eyes, approximately 5’7″, approximately 220 pounds

Roberts is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by the public. Roberts is possibly transient with no fixed address. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Roberts is urged to contact 9-1-1 or contact M. Hernandez at (661) 326-3567.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

On Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, at 9:05 PM, Bakersfield Police officers were dispatched to the 11000 block of Stockdale Highway regarding a check the welfare of an injured subject. When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim sustained major injuries and he was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim will be released by the Kern County Coroner at a later date.
