FAIR PULLS DAIRY CATTLE EVENTS ON AVIAN INFLUENZA FEARS

Confirmed cases of Avian Influenza at Central Valley dairies have led to changes at the upcoming Kern County Fair. Spokeswoman Chelsey Roberts says the Dairy Replacement Heifer Show and Sale has been canceled, and the dairy birthing area will be used as a cow-calf showing area.

Roberts notes that the young livestock producers will still be able to show online at the fair’s website, and about half have other animals to present. Biosecurity measures will also be in place to keep livestock stalled together based on their place of origin.
