Kern County Sheriff’s deputies shot a man early Thursday morning during a welfare check in Kernville.

It happened at around 3:30 near Big Blue Road and Piute Drive where Collin Kegely, 28, was allegedly armed and refusing to cooperate with deputies.

KCSO says the shooting happened when Kegely pointed a gun at deputies after they tried unsuccessfully to contact him on his cell phone.

He was taken to the hospital and was later arrested on several gun-related charges.
